This is a great place! It’s a restored historical house with lots of antiques, a quaint parlor with a bay window, right in the historic district of New Bern. The owners are a wonderful couple, more than willing to tell you the history of the house (or not if you prefer solitude). The best part is the great breakfasts. You pick from a menu of about 20 items, from Eggs Benedict to a breakfast sandwich on Ciabatta bread. Every morning I looked forward to trying something new.
Omelets: 3 large eggs stuffed with your choice of: cheddar cheese, gouda cheese, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, broccoli, scallion, ham, bacon or sausage.
Eggplant Frittata: a baked omelet with sauted eggplant, mushrooms and scallion, the egg is infused with cheddar and parmesan cheeses, topped with a spoon full of basil pesto.
Zucchini Frittata: a baked omelet with sauted green and yellow zucchini, a touch of scallion. The egg is infused with Gouda cheese and topped with mushrooms.
Shrimp and Grits: a milder version of the dinner entrée, shrimp, marinated in hot pepper sauce and lemon, served in a bacon, onion, pepper and garlic sauce, over cheesy grits.
Charming B&B; best breakfast of my life
My husband and I spent four nights at Hanna House while on a house-hunting trip. Camille and Joe welcomed us warmly and were gracious and accommodating hosts. The rooms are charming, each with its own sense of character, and the location can’t be beat. But the highlight of our stay was the gourmet breakfast each and every morning. With over a dozen options, there’s something to satisfy everyone.
There are many B&B options in New Bern, and we’ve stayed at others in the past. Hanna House is by far the best option. Stay here – you’ll be so glad you did.
